Development Proposals for Fire Mountain

There are two proposals before the Planning Commission on Monday requesting permission to construct to the maximum allowable, adding to the already increasing density of Fire Mountain. We have another opportunity to declare our neighborhood off limits to increased density and open to sensible development.  Please attend the Monday night (May 24th) Planning Commission hearing to support reasonable development in our neighborhood.

At issue here is the continued recommendation by the Planning Staff of increased density in our Neighborhood. The current Zoning is R-1/acre. That means 1 home per acre, with an allowable zoning of 1-3.5 with a conditional use permit. The Planning Commission recently denied an applicant on Avocado on the same type of request by a 5-2 vote. The City Council then approved it over neighborhood protest.

We have to stop this density maximization. We can see the results of the City Council vision at the corner of Fire Mountain and Yucca.

This is your chance to help preserve the quality of our Neighborhood. Best results are when you attend the Planning Commission meeting AND send an email in support of your opinion. If you cannot make the meeting, it is important that you contact your Planning Commissioners and let them know you oppose density increases before the meeting.

Eternal Hills Archaeological Site Update

Thanks to Chuck McDonell for this update on the Native American archaeological site in the Eternal Hills area:

To All:

Generally, as reported earlier, Fire Mountain neighbors have been happy with the way the Eternal Hills Expansion Project has been proceeding.  We’re also especially happy that the archaeological ridge site will be preserved.  It contains many artifacts that need to be protected as well as affording spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

We’ve always assumed that any expansion of the cemetery would exclude disturbing the site except for careful cleanup and restoration.  Sadly, I noticed some markers indicating pipes will be laid down which pass right through the side bordering the water tower property.  We understood such lines would be routed around the ridge, not through it.  Please re-evaluate the placement of such lines so that they do not disturb this important historic resource.  It seems unnecessary to have to route any utilities through this site since it’s basically a sandstone ridge and will not be landscaped.  The site must be preserved, not disturbed.  Any restoration and cleanup must be carefully handled because artifacts and unique geologic features could be easily damaged, disturbed or removed by contractors with their trenching machines.  Just driving a tractor over this area could cause considerable damage to delicate artifacts and plant life.  Here’re a few photographs to help illustrate our concerns.

Please let the contractor know how important this site is to the Native Americans and Fire Mountain neighbors who have worked hard to protect it.  Please avoid any disturbance to the site until a restoration plan can be developed to preserve our important historic heritage.  Route pipes and other utilities around the site, not through it.  Thank you.

Lincoln Middle Schoo PTSO Presents: The Cow Drop

On November 21, 2009, Lincoln Middle School’s PTSO,

students and parents will conduct the fundraising activity of the year. The Cow Drop!

The back lot of ECHS will be the site of what promises to become the entertainment event of the year with a goal of
helping to promote and finance educational activities for students at Lincoln Middle School.

THE SCHOOL COULD EARN $20,000 TO SUPPORT STUDENTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM.
A lucky winner could earn $2500!*

The Event
The athletic field will be divided into equal squares and each of those squares will be sold for $5.00.  On the morning of the 21st a drawing will determine the location of each ticket’s square.  At 9 am, Bessie the Cow will enter the stadium grounds. Free to roam the area, we will await anxiously for Bessie to drop her paddy.

The Reward
The owner of the square in which Bessie first does her duty will receive a check for $2,500 (or 10% of total ticket sales) for their support of Lincoln Middle School PTSO.  The second dropping will receive a check for $1,750 and the 3rd, $750.00 (7% and 3% respectively).
